Guest Lecture and Research Collaboration Discussion Faculty of Dentistry UNHAS and Kanazawa Medical University

On 9 February 2026, the Faculty of Dentistry at Hasanuddin University (FKG UNHAS) hosted a significant international academic exchange in the Molar Room, featuring a distinguished delegation from Kanazawa Medical University, Japan. The event, which ran from 09:00 to 10:30 AM, brought together residents from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Prosthodontics programs for a series of high-level guest lectures focused on the intersection of surgery and digital dental technology.

The lecture series opened with Prof. Hiroyuki Nakano, who shared his clinical expertise on the development of custom-made reconstruction plates for the mandible. Following this surgical focus, the session transitioned into the digital realm with Dr. Fumiaki Yamazaki discussing the clinical applications of digital dentures, while Dr. Takuya Munehita provided a technical deep dive into the material characteristics and recent advancements in 3D-printed dentures. These presentations sparked active, interactive discussions, offering the residents a direct look at the cutting-edge innovations currently shaping the field in Japan.

Beyond the classroom, the visit served as a catalyst for institutional growth through a productive research collaboration meeting. Representatives from both FKG UNHAS and Kanazawa Medical University explored frameworks for joint research projects, academic exchanges, and long-term scientific partnerships. To ground these discussions in clinical reality, the Japanese delegation also toured Rumah Sakiti Gigi dan Mulut Pendidikan (RSGMP) or Dental Hospital of UNHAS, observing the hospital’s facilities and service standards firsthand. This visit not only strengthened the ties between the two universities but also underscored UNHAS’s ongoing dedication to fostering international excellence in dental education and research.
