The guest lecture took place on 6 March 2026 under the title “Sworn Translation 2.0 in the Age of AI: Who Guarantees Accuracy, and Should We Fear Being Replaced?”, delivered by Dr. Daniel Krausse. The event was organized by the English Literature Study Program in collaboration with UPT Layanan Bahasa (Language Service), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), and the Himpunan Penerjemah Indonesia (Indonesian Translators Association), Makassar Chapter. The session was officially welcomed by Prof. Herawaty Abbas, President of the Himpunan Penerjemah Indonesia Makassar Chapter, and was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Prof. Dr. Andi Muhammad Akhmar, the Head of the English Department Dr. Sitti Syahraeny, along with lecturers and students.

In his lecture, Dr. Krausse discussed the growing influence of artificial intelligence in translation, particularly the increasing use of machine translation technologies in professional settings. He explained that while AI tools are able to improve efficiency and help translators handle large volumes of text, they cannot fully replace the role of human translators, especially in sworn translation where legal precision, contextual interpretation, and ethical responsibility are required.

Addressing concerns about the possibility of AI replacing human translators, Dr. Krausse emphasized that artificial intelligence should be viewed as a supportive instrument rather than a substitute. He encouraged students and aspiring translators to strengthen their linguistic competence, deepen their cultural understanding, and develop technological literacy in order to remain relevant in the rapidly evolving translation industry.

Through this lecture, participants gained valuable insight into the transformation of translation practices in the digital era, as well as the continuing importance of human expertise in maintaining accuracy and accountability. The event also served as an important platform for academic dialogue and knowledge exchange, strengthening collaboration between academic institutions, professional associations, and students at UNHAS.
