The International Office (IO) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) was invited by the State University of Makassar (UNM) to facilitate a strategic workshop on designing guidelines for international student admissions. Held on Saturday, 14 March 2026, at the Four Points Hotel Makassar, the event was officially opened by UNM’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hj. Andi Aslindah, M.Si. The session began at 2:00 PM WITA, bringing together relevant staff from across UNM to establish a more robust framework for global student recruitment.

Representing UNHAS, Muhammad Ridwan, M.A. (Secretary of the IO), shared his institution’s best practices in international student management. While UNM has a history of hosting international students through the Bahasa Indonesia Untuk Penutur Asing (BIPA) program, the university is now aiming to transition beyond non-degree offerings. The workshop serves as a critical step in professionalising their admission processes to support full-degree international enrollments and long-term academic integration.

As part of this internationalisation push, Prof. Aslindah revealed that following the month of Ramadan, the Rector and a specialised team plan to travel to Dili, Timor-Leste, to recruit prospective students. To support this initiative, UNM will offer a limited number of full scholarships to high-potential candidates. The first day of the workshop concluded on a communal note, with participants, committee members, and facilitators gathering for breakfast (iftar) provided by the hotel, marking a productive start to this inter-university collaboration.
