Advancing Nursing Education and Wound Care: Prof. Makoto Oe’s Academic Visit to Makassar

The Faculty of Nursing (FKep), Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) welcomed Prof. Makoto Oe from Kanazawa University for an academic visit held from 9 to 13 February 2026. During the visit, Prof. Oe also visited several health service institutions across the city of Makassar. The visit aimed to strengthen academic collaboration, expand research development, enhance educational capacity, and foster knowledge exchange in the fields of nursing and wound care.

The program began with a meeting between Prof. Oe and the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, UNHAS, Prof. Dr. Elly L. Sjattar, S.Kp., M.Kes., along with the Vice Dean for Student and Academic Affairs, Syahrul, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., Ph.D., and the Vice Dean for Partnerships, Research, and Innovation, Dr. Takdir Tahir, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes. The discussion focused on expanding academic partnerships, strengthening student exchange programs, developing joint research initiatives, and exploring new opportunities for educational and research advancement.

In addition to campus activities, Prof. Oe conducted a series of visits to healthcare institutions in Makassar. These included the ETN Centre, where he was welcomed by wound care nurses Muhammad Zulfiqar and Eva Arna Abrar; Minasa Upa Public Health Center welcomed by Dr. Hj. Sri Zakiah Usman; Mangasa Public health center, welcomed by Drg. Dwi Ariyani, M.Adm.Kes.; and Kassi-Kassi Public health center, welcomed by Dr. Irma Kusuma Azis, M.Kes. Prof. Oe also visited UNHAS Hospital, where she was welcomed by the Director of Nursing and Non-Medical Support Services at UNHAS Hospital, Dr. Rosyidah Arafat, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Sp.KMB. These visits included academic discussions of research and clinical service facilities, providing Prof. Oe with direct insight into local healthcare practices and institutional development.

The activities are expected to further strengthen international collaboration in education, research, and community engagement, particularly within the field of nursing. Both institutions expressed optimism that this partnership will continue to grow and benefit academic and healthcare communities in the future.
