The Faculty of Nursing (FKep) at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) successfully organized a visiting lecture program in collaboration with Niigata University of Health and Welfare (NUHW), Japan. This program was supported by the Equity Program funded by the Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP), Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education Agency, which contributed to the implementation of this international academic initiative. The program brought together three lecturers from NUHW—Fusayo Kobayashi, Tomoko Nonaka, and Kanako Shimbo—for a week of academic discussions, clinical visits, and cultural engagement from 2–7 March 2026.

The program began with a welcome session hosted by the FKep UNHAS. The session was formally opened by the Head of the International Office of UNHAS, Masyitha Irwan, S.Kep., Ns., MAN., Ph.D., and was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Elly L. Following the welcome remarks, the program continued with an introduction to UNHAS and a presentation on the Indonesian health system. The first day concluded with a faculty tour, which introduced the visitors to the FKep facilities and learning environment.
Throughout the week, the lecturers from Niigata University of Health and Welfare visited several healthcare institutions, including UNHAS Teaching Hospital, Griya Afiyat Clinic in Gowa Regency, Antara Public Health Centre, and Dadi Mental Hospital. These visits provided an opportunity to observe various healthcare services, ranging from hospital-based care and wound care management to primary healthcare and mental health services.
One of the highlights of the program was the Visiting Lecture held on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. The lecture featured two distinguished speakers from Niigata University of Health and Welfare: Fusayo Kobayashi, an expert in Community Health and International Nursing, and Tomoko Nonaka, a specialist in Chronic Care Nursing. Kobayashi Sensei delivered a lecture titled “Prevention of Lifestyle-related Diseases in Pohnpei State, Federated States of Micronesia,” emphasizing the role of community-based interventions and culturally sensitive health education in preventing non-communicable diseases. Meanwhile, Nonaka Sensei presented “Diabetic Nursing Practice in Japan: Preventive Foot Care and Older Adult Care,” highlighting nursing strategies for diabetes management and improving the quality of life among elderly patients.
The program concluded with a cultural dinner and Ramadan break-fast gathering around Losari Beach, which strengthened friendships and professional connections among participants.
Through this program, the FKep UNHAS reaffirmed its commitment to fostering international collaboration and preparing future nurses to address global health challenges through knowledge exchange and cross-cultural learning.
